The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
For the purpose of legalization & certification of documents, applicants are required to submit the original documents authenticated by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka. (Photocopies/scanned or tampered documents will not be accepted)
Please note that the documents without the authentication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not be accepted for this purposes.
The fee:
The applicant should come in person to the Embassy with valid passport, resident card and original documents that are relevant to the Affidavit (Eg, Driving license, Birth certificate, Marriage Certificate).
(Acceptance of documents between 09:15 - 12:00. Issuance of documents between 13:00 - 15:00)
Prescribed Fee: JPY 9,000.
Where a Power of Attorney is required for submission to a Court of Law in Sri Lanka or any other legal institution or matters related to legal implications, the applicant should obtain the Power of Attorney from a lawyer in Sri Lanka and bring the document to the Embassy along with the following documents that will be signed in the presence of an officer at the Embassy;
In case where one parent is in Japan and the passport application to obtain a new passport for a child is submitted to Colombo Immigration and Emigration Department by the other parent from Sri Lanka, the parent in Japan should:
- write a letter addressed to the Controller General/ Immigration and Emigration, Colombo stating he/she has no objection for the issuance of a passport to the child and submit the same to the Embassy for attestation along with his/her passport and a copy of the birth certificate of the child.

Prescribed Fee: JPY 4,000.
Any document issued by the Government of Japan should be certified by the Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan before submitted to this Embassy for attestation or legalization.
Notes:
* This Embassy is not responsible for any document lost in the post
* Submission of forged documents and making false declarations relating to citizenship is a punishable offence. Fees will not be refunded in these circumstances.
* Incomplete applications will be returned and consular fees will not be refunded.
