1. Specified Skilled Worker System (SSW)

Japan provides employment opportunities for foreign blue-collar workers under two visa categories as “Specified Skills” (tokutei ginou, 特定技能), since 01 of April 2019.The Japanese government estimates to accepts up to 345,150 foreign workers for over a five-year period from April 2019. New System is aimed at expanding the acceptance of foreign laborers to make up for a serious labor shortage in Japan. Sri Lanka and Japan signed a Memorandum of Corporation (MOC) in this regard in June 2019 and Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) officially makes basic legal framework as the authorized institute for Sri Lanka.

2. Technical Intern Training System (TITP)

Under this system Sri Lanka has signed a Memorandum of Corporation with Japan in 2018 to send Sri Lankans as Trainees for 5 years period. Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) supervises the programme from Sri Lanka side and Organization of Technical Intern Training (OTIT) supervises the Japanese Supervising Organizations and Accepting organizations on behalf other Japanese government.
